Laguna Beach Unified School District is presenting
a Ten-Week LBUSD Parent Education Program Beginning
tonight Wednesday January 28 2015 at 6:30pm.
The class with be at the Susi Q Community center located at 380 Third Street.

Parenting is a rewarding and sometimes demanding role.
To assist during the more difficult times, the District is sponsoring a ten-week parent education program, Parent Project, for parents of Thurston Middle School and Laguna Beach High School students.
Classes will be held every Wednesday from 6:30-9:30 p.m. beginning January 28 through April 15, 2015.
The exception of February 18 and April 8 because of the Mid-Winter Break and Spring Break, respectively.
There is no cost for tuition.

Marriage and Family Therapist Laura Rivas is the Parent Project facilitator for this interactive class that will provide parents of adolescents an opportunity to learn effective strategies and skills for eliminating frequently occurring negative student behaviors.
Strategies for improving school attendance and performance, preventing or intervening in student alcohol and other drug use, as well as additional resources are included in the class.

Today’s students face increasing challenges in an ever-changing world and parents’ challenges increase right alongside their children’s.
LBUSD Coordinator, Assessment, Accountability and Special Projects Amy Kernan states, “I really encourage parents, especially those of secondary students, to attend the Parent Project.
There are so many new obstacles and challenges that teenagers face now that weren’t present when we were growing up.
Laura does a great job providing answers to questions and resources regarding how parents can best help their kids navigate through high school and beyond.”

Finding the right class, making the time commitment and cost are often issues that may prevent parents from attending parent education classes. The District hopes that by eliminating two of the three challenges, parents will be able to take advantage of this opportunity, providing an investment in parents’ personal growth and their children’s future.

parents are asked to contact their child’s school counselor
