July 4 2015 9:45am: The City Of Laguna Beach stated that drivers are to Expect traffic delays all day on the Southbound Laguna Canyon Road at Canyon Acres due to fire repairs.
July 3 2015: (not time specific) Sgt Tim Kleiser of the Laguna Beach Police Department issued the following Press Release:
At 3:04 pm the Laguna Beach Police and Fire Departments received several 911 calls reporting a vegetation fire in the 1900 block of Laguna Canyon Road.
The Laguna Beach Fire Department, along with the Orange County Fire Authority, responded with over 150 firefighters and emergency personnel.
There are no homes threatened and no evacuations have been ordered.
The fire is approximately 12 acres and the forward progress of the fire has been stopped.
Currently we are managing “hot spots”.
There are deactivated electrical wires down on Arroyo Drive and that area can only be accessed on foot.
Laguna Canyon Road has one lane in each direction now open and there is access to the Pageant of the Masters.
One firefighter suffered an ankle injury and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
He is expected to make a full recovery.
There were no structures damaged from the fire and the only injury reported was the firefighter.
7:15pm: NBC News is reporting that Sgt Tim Kleiser stated that the most likely cause of the Laguna Beach Fire was that a tree fell on power lines. Next a transformer blew that created a surge of power across the lines. This surge of power most likely ignited brush a distance away.
6:45pm: The City of Laguna Beach is reporting that Laguna Canyon Road now has 1 lane open in each direction. Expect heavy traffic.
6:15pm: Orange County Fire Authority is reporting that the fire has been under control for awhile. Approx 12 acres & no homes were damaged or ever threatened.
6:00pm: SoCal Safety 1st is reporting on Twitter that the Orange County Fire Authority
just mapped the fire and confirmed that it’s a total of 15 acres burned.
Crews still mopping hot spots within burn area.
5:10pm: OC Firewatch on Twitter is reporting that there is a SIGALERT for the City of Laguna Beach.
They are reporting that NO ONE will be allowed to enter city on surface streets.
This report has not been verified with the city of Laguna Beach by South OC Beaches.
4:53pm: KNX Radio is reporting that the Orange County Fire Auhtority is telling them that they have a good handle on the fire and that they are releasing resources.
4:50pm: The Toll Roads is reporting that the 73 Toll Road open in both directions.
South Bound El Toro Road and Southbound 133 south of the 73 are closed.
Southbound133 traffic is being diverted onto 73.
4:41 PM: Orange County EOC is reporting that residents are advised to shelter in place in area of Arroyo Dr and Canyon Acres Dr in Laguna Beach due to downed power lines.
4:28 PM: Orange County Fire Authority is reporting that there are three Type 3 Strike Teams(15 brush engs) that are assisting the initial Fire Fightersthat were onscene.
There are Helos and airtankers deployed to fight the fire.
4:21pm: Orange County Fire Authority is reporting that the fire in Laguna Canyon Road is a vegetation fire. The fire started after 3:00pm.
At 4pm the fire was approx 10-15 acres.
4:20pm: Laguna Beach California Current Weather Coniditions:
72 degrees with 66% humidity and winds at 11 mph.
4:15pm: There are 100 Firefighters on scene.
4:07pm: California Highway Patrol is assisting with closure of Laguna Canyon Road.
4:05pm: KNX radio is reporting that the fire is encompassing 10 acres.
There are 2 fixed wings and 2 choppers deployed to fight the fire.
The wind is light and the fire is currently blowing away from the homes.
There are images on Twitter that show the smoke can be seen from the beach in Laguna.
3:55pm: Orange County Sheriff Department is assisting with closure of north entrance into Laguna Canyon.
Laguna Beach Fire Department and Orange County Fire Auhtority fight 1/4 acre brush fire.
3:50pm: Orange County Fire Authority is reporting that the Orange County Fire Authority and Laguna Beach Fire Department are working together to put out the Laguna Canyon Fire.
3:21pm: The City of Laguna Beach is reporting that Laguna Canyon Rd is closed in both direction.
There is a brush fire in the 1900 block of Laguna Canyon Road.
This area is below the Laguna College of Art and Design.
The Laguna College of Art and Desgin is located at 2222 Laguna Canyon Road.
Laguna Canyon Road will be closed until further notice.
