South Coast Water District Doheny Ocean Desalination Project Public Meeting is Tuesday June 26 2018.
The Community meeting is in San Juan Capistrano at 6:00pm.
The Public is encouraged to attend.
Dana Point Doheny Ocean Desalination Project Environmental Impact Report was released May 24 2018. The Report is available for Public Viewing. The Public is encouraged to comment to South Coast Water District on the Ocean Desalination Project.
The Doheny Ocean Desalination Project could provide high quality, locally controlled and drought-proof water supply while protecting the environment if implemented.
Currently, South Coast Water District imports 85 to 100 percent of its drinking water, causing vulnerability during droughts, supply shortages and potentially during natural disasters.
Unlike traditional desalination facilities, the Doheny facility would use advanced slant wells that protect marine life by drawing water from beneath the ocean floor.
Environmentalists and state regulators prefer this technology.
Built into the system being considered by the District is also an energy recovery process, resulting in 45 to 55 percent less energy usage than systems without that feature.
During the 60-day public review period ending July 23 2018, hard copies will also be available at the following locations:
