The Ocean Institute will explore a new way of navigating on select Thursdays from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

Thursday July 25 2019 : Birds
It’s a bird, it’s a plane… no, wait, it is a bird!
Come be a ‘Bird Nerd’ and learn about the different ways birds navigate during seasonal migrations short and long.
Families will play a life-sized board game, map migration routes of birds as they navigate around the world, learn to use binoculars to ID local species and bird anatomy.
Thursday August 22 2019: Sailing the Seas
Join us for a family night of fun as you explore how sailors from different cultures have utilized navigation throughout time.
During Family Science Night you will tour the brig Pilgrim, raise sail on the Spirit of Dana Point, learn about navigation and create your own sounding line to determine depth.
Thursday September 26 2019: Underwater Robot Challenge – Mysteries of the Deep
There is a world of wonder hidden beneath the ocean’s surface.
Come discover how scientists navigate the deepest and most unexplored parts of the ocean and learn what it takes to build and pilot an underwater robot.
