A Special 50th Anniversary show with 5 Summer Stories & Honk, playing live, as they did 50 years ago.Relive the summer of ’72 when filmmakers Greg MacGillivray and Jim Freeman released their classic surf film Five Summer Stories with music from the Beach Boys and local Laguna band Honk. An instant cultural touchstone from a truly watershed era, Five Summer Stories raised the surf film art form to a new level and set the genre’s artistic standards for the next two decades.
In this special once-in-a-lifetime event—a creative blend of live concert and film screening—Honk will reunite to play their original music live as select scenes from Five Summer Stories play on a giant LED screen. Throughout the program, filmmaker Greg MacGillivray and band members Steve Wood, Tris Imboden, Beth Fitchet Wood, Richard Stekol and Craig Buhler will share stories about making the film’s hit soundtrack and its impact on a generation of young surfers. Sam George, former editor of Surfer magazine, will moderate the conversation.
After the performance, Greg will sign copies of his new memoir, Five Hundred Summer Stories.
Legendary surfers Gerry Lopez and Jericho Poppler are just a few of the celebrity attendees coming to show their support.
This is a special venue and tickets will sell out. Limited seating, mostly standing room. Chairs are first come first served.
