California King Tides Annual Project Friday December 23 2022.
Help people visualize sea level rising by taking pictures and submitting them to the California King Tides Project.
Join in to learn about tides and how sea level rise is impacting our local coastline, then head to the local marine protected area to document the effects of the King Tides as a citizen scientist for the California King Tides Project.

The California King Tides Project helps people visualize future sea level by observing the highest high tides of today.
You can help by taking and sharing photos of the shoreline during King Tides to create a record of the changes to our coast from sea level rise.

Taking King Tide Pictures

Take Pictures of the Tides at Their Highest

Include Your Local Infrastructure
(meaning human-built parts of your community, like bridges, roads, seawalls, pathways, etc. affected by the high tides, if possible)

Be sure to have your Geolocation Services set to “on.”

Never Turn Your Back on the Ocean
Wear Appropriate Footwear
Be Aware of Weather Conditions
High Tide will be Higher than Usual
There May Be Big Splashes
There May Be Flooding
There May Be Slippery Rocks or Pathways
There May Be Large Waves
Watch For Marine Debris

Make sure you aren’t intruding on animals feeding or roosting
