Enjoy great music, beautifully exhibited original art, and conclude the evening with a performance of the 2014 Pageant of the Masters “The Art Detective” hosted by cast members of CBS’s Criminal Minds including Paget Brewster, Joe Mantegna, Thomas Gibson, Shemar Moore, and A.J. This year’s proceeds from Yappy Hour and The Diamond Ball will support the Wounded Veterans Initiative of Canine Companions for Independence, and will help offset some of the unique costs associated with Canine Companion’s Southwest Region puppy raising program. Canine Companions has had more than 360 volunteer puppy raisers in Orange County and the funds raised through Yappy Hour will be dedicated for puppy training and obedience classes, transportation of puppies to their new puppy raisers, spaying and neutering, and boarding costs for puppies in heat.

San Clemente-Dana Point Animal Shelter Summer Blackout: Black Cats $50.00

During the month of August, the San Clemente- Dana Point Animal Shelter will offer black kittens and cats for adoption at a discounted price of $50.00. The shelter is calling their special promotion a “Summer Blackout” and encourages people to adopt black cats, which are typically 50 percent less likely to be adopted than cats of another color. The shelter regularly charges $150 to adopt kittens under 4 months old and $100 for cats and kittens 4 months or older. The promotional adoption price includes the standard spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip, vet exam, flea treatment and deworming treatment, and a bag of cat food.

The shelter hours are as follows: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Wednesday open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Sunday open from noon to 3:00 p.m.; and Monday the shelter is closed.

Dana Point Ocean Institute Family Science Night Tonight Tuesday August 19 2014

The Ocean Institute in Dana Point is presenting Summer Family Science Nights.
Spend a summer evening in their Samueli Conference Center getting up close and personal with local scientists. Your entire family is invited to visit as you survey the stars, explore the seas, and dive into the surf zone. Each workshop event will include a presentation by a guest speaker with alternate activities for kids, followed by a lab program to introduce your whole family to the fascinating world of science.
This weeks event is on Tuesday August 19. 2014 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

Speaker Trude Hurd, Director of Education, The Sea and Sage Audubon Center will discuss Backyard Birds In Your Neighborhood.

City of Laguna Beach Heritage Committee Meeting at 6:00pm Tonight

The City of Laguna Beach Heritage Committee Meeting is scheduled for tonight, Monday August 18 2014 at 6:00pm. The Committee meets at the City Council Chambers located at 505 Forest Avenue. There is scheduled time for public comments and there are scheduled agenda items. The scheduled agenda items are as follows:

1. 1860 Carmelita Street – The applicant requests Heritage Committee approval to place the structure on the City’s Historic Register as a “K” rated property. The property is listed as a “K” rated structure on the City’s Historic Inventory. A historic assessment has been provided. (An addition to this property was reviewed on July 21, 2014).

2. 770 Hillcrest Street – The applicant requests Heritage Committee review and recommendation to the City Council for a Mills Act contract. The property is listed as a “E” rated structure on the City’s Historic Register.

The Friends of San Clemente Beaches, Parks and Recreational Foundation are sponsoring the 3RD ANNUAL “STOKE-O-RAMA” SURF CONTEST for surfers 14 and under.
Friends of San Clemente’s 3rd Annual “Stoke-O-Rama” Surf Contest, presented by The Gudauskas Brothers, and in cooperation with the City of San Clemente. Registration starts today Monday August 18 2014
at Jacks Surf Shop located at 176 Avenida Del Mar.
There are only 100 spaces available so register early!
First come, first served til all spaces have been filled!
