The National Weather Service issued a Coastal Hazard Message at 2:03a.m. on Wednesday August 27 2014. Large South Swells from Hurricane Marie will build to 10 feet this morning. The swell will produce large surf, strong rip currents and strong longshore currents through Friday.
Surf of 8 to 10 Feet will become more widespread today and Thursday across Orange County. Occasional sets at some beaches during this time could reach 12 to 15 Feet. High Surf could continue in Orange County Beaches through Friday. Waves could top at 15 Feet today and be as high as 10 feet Thursday.
Impacts will be greatest along the beaches of Orange County where damage to Piers and other structures is possible. Some beach erosion is possible. The large surf with very strong rip currents and longshore currents will create extremely dangerous swimming and surfing conditions.Occasionally larger waves can appear unexpectedly and wash over rocks and jetties near the waters edge.
