Laguna Art Museum Music and Dance Concert Thursday

20140812-202007-73207016.jpg

Laguna Art Museum Presents a Music and Dance Concert this Thursday August 14 2014 at 7:00pm. This event is free for museum members, and free for non-members with museum admission
.
Laguna Art Museum, Laguna Beach Live!, and Laguna Dance Festival have joined forces to commission an original music-and-dance piece inspired by a work of art from the museum’s collection. The organizations have worked closely together to embrace the challenge of ekphrasis, the interpretation of a work of art in another art form.
.
For this performance, choreographer Bernard Gaddis presents a new choreographic work to an original score by composer Alan Chan, both inspired by Lotus Land, a 1967 oil painting by Lee Mullican from Laguna Art Museum’s collection. The dance piece will be previewed in simplified form at the museum on August 14, following a concert of Chan’s composition performed by the Argus Quartet. After the performance, Gaddis, Chan, and representatives from Laguna Art Museum, Laguna Beach Live!, and Laguna Dance Festival will be present for a discussion with the audience.
.
The first fully-produced, on-stage performance of Ekphrasis will take place as part of the Laguna Dance Festival Gala Performance on Saturday, September 13. Click here for more information.
.

Laguna Beach Drum Circle at Aliso Creek Pier is Scheduled Tonight at 7:00pm

Billy Fried spoke with the Laguna Beach Police Department this past week about the upcoming drum circle. Billy Fried wrote about this in the Coastline Pilot.
Here is a excerpt: ” They assured me their intent isn’t to shut down the drum circle or close the parking lots, but they do want to get in front of any potential problems and cite people for drinking, doing drugs and engaging in any other behavior that puts people in jeopardy.

I respect their goal to protect us. And they are putting some positive, preventive measures in place such as:

• Telling people who park on the east side of Coast Highway to use the tunnel — I’m sure many don’t even know it’s there.

• Telling people who are dropping off their kids to be back before 10 p.m. or they will be unable to re-enter the lot.

• Handing out fliers reminding people of park regulations.

• Patrolling the event.

So if your intent is to come and enjoy the drumming, whether playing, dancing or watching, you have nothing to fear. Come on out and responsibly celebrate the last full moon of summer. This fabulous and dynamic cultural event runs from 7 to 10 p.m.”
