The Silverado Canyon Fire has burned over 1600 acres and has displaced area residents. Currently there is a estimated 10% containment. Officials are reassessing evacuations. Yesterday three Firefighters required hospitalization due to heat related injuries. 280 Fire Personnel were on the scene yesterday. More personnel will be added today as they intend to hit it hard today. With the temperatures likely to be in the triple digits and possible lack of wind, firefighters started early today to combat the fire.
Corona Fire Department is stating that “reports say that there was no fire growth overnight and firefighters are making great progress. The US Forest Service, CalFire and other agencies have been working very hard to contain this wildfire.”
Yesterday at approximately 10:30 am The United States Forest Service (USFS) reported that a brush and grass fire began due to unknown origin. The fire began near the 30500 block of Silverado Canyon Road in the Cleveland National Forest. The fire area is in steep mountain slopes with dry vegetation.
The USFS reported that the wildfire was off of Silverado Canyon Road south of Corona. The Road closures are North Main, Indian Truck, Bedford, Maples Springs Road and Santiago Canyon Road between Hwy 241 and Live Oak Canyon Road.
30 homes in the uppermost section of the canyon are under mandatory evacuation. The Orange County Red Cross is reporting the Evacuation Center is located at 3920 E Spring Street in Orange. Pets are not allowed at the Red Cross Shelter. Small animals are to be brought to the OC Animal Shelter at 561 The City Drive in Orange. Large Animal evacuations are available at the OC Fairgrounds. Residents must call (714) 708-1588 before bring a animal.
Last night Orange County Sheriff Department (OCSD) reported that parts of Silverado Canyon had lost power as a result of the fire. Cal Fire is reporting that 130 homes are without power. The Orange County EOC provided safety tips for power outages: Use only battery operated flashlights, unplug computers and TVs, keep fridge doors closed as much as possible, if power is out more than 2 hours, throw away any food with a temperature of more than 40 degrees Farenheit.
OC Parks is reporting that Irvine Regional Park & OC Zoo are closed Sat & Sun. The park is hosting 500-1,000 firefighters & resources fighting the fire.
Yesterday the South Coast Air Quality Management District issued a smoke advisory. Unhealthy air quality was likely in the Capistrano Valley Area. People with health related issues should avoid any vigorous exertion and remain indoors.
