United States Coast Guard Rescued Kayaker in Dana Point

At 8:55 am The United States Coast Guard (USCG) out of Los Angeles is reporting that it has launched Cutter Narwhal to rescue Kayaker 15 miles off Dana Point .
At 9:28 am : The United States Coast Guard Los Angeles reported that Narwhal has safely picked up kayaker, treating her for dehydration and fatigue, and transporting back to shore.

Salt Creek Beach Swimmer Recovery Efforts will Start Again Tomorrow at 6:00am

The Orange County Sheriffs Department issued a statement today about the missing swimmer at Salt Creek Beach located in Dana Point. The recovery efforts are concluded for the night. The recovery efforts will begin again tomorrow at 6:00am.
In part the statement stated that ” On Saturday August 23 2014 at approx. 11:33am Orange County Lifeguards received a report of a missing swimmer off Salt Creek Beach. The missing swimmer is a 60 year old male who was last seen body surfing in the water near Lifeguard Tower 2.”
The Orange County Lifeguards led the initial search. Next there was a multi agency search. Lifeguards from Orange County, Laguna Beach and the California State Park helped in the search. Lifeguards used jet skis and their snorkel team as tools in the search. The Sheriffs Harbor Patrol and Dive Team also searched the area. Orange County Fire Authority assisted as well. Anaheim Police and the United States Coast Guard supplied support from the air.
South OC Beaches was on the scene today witnessing the various search attempts. There was a Command Center at Life Guard Tower 2 at Salt Creek Beach. We saw search boats and two helicopters searching at the point just north of the exclusive Ritz Cove Residences. The photo we posted is of lifeguard tower 2.
The Orange County Lifeguards, Orange County Sheriffs Department and the United States Coast Guard searched until dark.
This was a busy beach day at Salt Creek Beach. There was many people enjoying beach activities. The National Weather Service has issued a Beach Advisory for this weekend for Orange County. Strong rip currents and high surf advisories for the Orange County Beaches. Salt Creek Beach Rescue Still Ongoing #RightNow

Missing Swimmer at Salt Creek Beach Right Now: Orange County Fire On Scene

Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) is reporting that they are searching for a missing swimmer in his 60's. The call time was 11:45 am. Orange County Fire Authority is conducting a search for the swimmer with a multi agency approach. OCFA is using a helicopter in their search. They are also using snorkel teams. 25 Firefighters from OCFA, Urban Surf and Rescue (US & R) and Laguna Beach Fire are assisting Life Guards and deputies.

San Clemente-Dana Point Animal Shelter offers Black Cats for $50.00

During the month of August, the San Clemente- Dana Point Animal Shelter will offer black kittens and cats for adoption at a discounted price of $50.00. The shelter is calling their special promotion a “Summer Blackout” and encourages people to adopt black cats, which are typically 50 percent less likely to be adopted than cats of another color. The shelter regularly charges $150 to adopt kittens under 4 months old and $100 for cats and kittens 4 months or older. The promotional adoption price includes the standard spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip, vet exam, flea treatment and deworming treatment, and a bag of cat food.

The shelter hours are as follows: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Wednesday open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Sunday open from noon to 3:00 p.m.; and Monday the shelter is closed.
