The San Clemente Golf Course Meeting is scheduled for tonight, Thursday August 7. 2014 at 7:00pm at San Clemente City Hall Council Chambers. The new business tonight is a discussion of the city’s current policy on city tree removal for benefit of private views. The current policy does not allow for city trees to be removed for view purposes. They will discuss if the current policy should be changed so city trees can be removed to benefit private views. The meeting tonight is open to the public. San Clemente City Hall is located at 100 Presidio.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in San Diego California issued a hazard message for Orange County Coastal areas right now through this evening.
The NWS predicts strong rip currents and elevated surf today. The NWS forecasts a 3 to 4 Foot SouthWest Swell with a 14 to 16 second period that will elevate the surf and cause strong Rip Currents. This can result in dangerous swimming conditions, especially for inexperienced swimmers. Obey posted swimming signs and always swim near a Lifeguard.

San Clemente Police Services invites residents to enjoy “Coffee With A Cop” on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. at Peet’s Coffee located at 801 Avenida Talega in San Clemente.
The entire community is welcome to come together in an informal, neutral space to talk face-to-face about issues in their respective neighborhoods, ask questions, foster relationships with San Clemente’s motor deputies, and enjoy a warm cup of coffee. There is no agenda or speeches. Mayor Tim Brown, Chief of San Clemente Police Services Dave Moodie, and Captain John Coppock, former Chief of San Clemente Police Services and now overseeing south county operations for the Sheriff’s Department also plan to attend.
Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the country, as local police departments, sheriff’s offices, and state police forces strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.
This is the second “Coffee with a Cop” hosted by San Clemente Police Services, with the first such meeting held in North Beach in February and attended by 50 people.

Event is happening right now until 8:00pm at San Clemente Aquatic Center / Vista Hermosa Park Sports Park across from Target. There are booths with activities for children, display vehicles from the Sheriff and Fire Departments. The kids are having a great time meeting with Law Enforcement Officers and Fire Fighters. There is still time to come down and be a part of what’s happening right now in San Clemente.

During the month of August, the San Clemente- Dana Point Animal Shelter will offer black kittens and cats for adoption at a discounted price of $50.00. The shelter is calling their special promotion a “Summer Blackout” and encourages people to adopt black cats, which are typically 50 percent less likely to be adopted than cats of another color. The shelter regularly charges $150 to adopt kittens under 4 months old and $100 for cats and kittens 4 months or older. The promotional adoption price includes the standard spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip, vet exam, flea treatment and deworming treatment, and a bag of cat food.

Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department DUI Task Force will be deploying this weekend to stop and arrest alcohol and drug-impaired drivers in the Department’s ongoing traffic safety campaign.
DUI Saturation Patrols will deploy on Friday, August 1st at 7:00 pm until Saturday, August 2nd at 3:00 am in the cities of Dana Point, San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano. These patrols will be targeting areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions and/or arrests.
“Don’t drink and drive or you will be arrested for DUI,” said Deputy Shane Stewart of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Bureau. “This is a ‘Zero Tolerance’ crackdown so Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over!”
The goal of the program is to reduce the rate at which the citizens of Orange County are killed or injured in DUI related collisions. Through implementation of these events, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department hopes to significantly reduce deaths, injuries and property damage in each of our contract cities.
After falling dramatically for five straight years, figures for 2012 show an increase to 802 deaths because someone failed to designate a sober driver. Over the course of the past three years, DUI collisions have claimed 21 lives and resulted in 500 injuries of our friends and neighbors within Sheriff’s Department contract areas.
DUI can impact the economy in addition to the pain and suffering of those immediately affected. Conservatively, a fatality collision has a $1.4 million impact, an injury collision $70,000 and a crash that only damages property averages nearly $9,000.
Funding for this program is from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Report Drunk Drivers, Call 911!
