Laguna Beach Art in Public Places Main Beach Park Sculpture Competition Deadline Tonight at Midnight

Eligibility: Open to artists who live in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Diego counties.
Project Budget $56,000
Inclusive of all artist’s fees and associated expenses for design, fabrications, insurance, transportation and installation.
Site Description
The City of Laguna Beach recently completed the construction of the Lifeguard Headquarters Facility at Main Beach Park. The construction was subject to the City’s Art in Public Places requirement to install public art. Main Beach Park is centrally located in the downtown and is one of the City’s five ocean front parks. The project site is located at 107 North Coast Highway, at the center of the park. The area has high pedestrian traffic with beach use, and beach and park recreation activities, both active and passive.
Site Requirements
 To create a sculpture within an existing landscape planter.
 The proposed sculpture cannot exceed 10’ in height, including the base.
 The sculpture must have the ability to be temporarily removed for the scheduled Laguna Canyon
Channel rehabilitation in 2017. This project is to rehabilitate a channel which is located underneath the
site.
 The sculpture must be original and an edition of one.
 The proposal should not include seating or shade elements.
 The proposed project must be constructed of durable materials that will be easy to maintain in an ocean
environment.
 All art work must have surfaces that are safe to touch.
 All art work must be securely installed.
 Artist must guarantee the construction and installation of the art work for five years.
A subcommittee of the Arts Commission will meet with selected finalists and will provide more input as to the site requirements.
Entry Requirements
All submissions must be made on-line at http://lagunabeachcity.slideroom.com. and must include:
1) Artist Information.
2) Professional resume – Please outline your experience in public art.
3) Three references – Please include the names and contact numbers of 3 individuals with whom you
have worked or who have commissioned your work within the past 5 years. Please describe the
medium(s) and genre(s) of the work.
4) Provide 10 digital images of previous related exterior work. Do not include concept projects or computer
designed proposals. Only include images that are relevant to this project. Do not submit paintings, interior exhibits, or temporary materials for consideration.
Artist Selection Considerations
 Artistic excellence, innovation and originality, as evidenced by representations of past work and other supporting material.
 Appropriateness of the artist’s work to the goal of the project.
 Professional experience is adequate to meet the demands of the project.
 Availability to participate in the design, approval and implementation of the project.
 Ability to meet project deadlines and to perform work in a timely and professional manner.
Results of reference checks if selected as a finalist.
 Artist teams must demonstrate previous collaborations.
 The selected art work must have been created by the artist.
