Capo Beach at 6:30p.m. pst on Tuesday August 26 2014
(photo by David Crane for South OC Beaches)
The National Weather Service issued a Coastal Hazard Message at 6:26pm on Tuesday August 26 2014. Large South Swells from Hurricane Marie will build to 10 feet tonight. The swell will produce large surf, strong rip currents and strong longshore currents through Thursday.
Surf of 8 to 10 Feet will become more widespread tonight and Wednesday across Orange County. Occasional sets at some beaches during this time could reach 12 to 15 Feet.
Impacts will be greatest along the beaches of Orange County where damage to Piers and other structures is possible. Some beach erosion is possible. The large surf with very strong rip currents and longshore currents will create extremely dangerous swimming and surfing conditions.Occasionally larger waves can appear unexpectedly and wash over rocks and jetties near the waters edge.

Photo of search at Salt Creek Beach today by South OC Beaches (8-23-14)
The Orange County Register is reporting that “Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said witnesses called authorities about 11:45 a.m. after seeing a man in his 60’s go under a large wave and not resurface.” The search and rescue is ongoing right now at Salt Creek State Beach in Dana Point right now.
Orange County Fire Authority is conducting a search for the swimmer with a multi agency approach. OCFA is using a helicopter in their search. They are also using snorkel teams. 25 Firefighters from OCFA, Urban Surf and Rescue (US & R) and Laguna Beach Fire are assisting Life Guards and deputies.
South OC Beaches was on the scene today witnessing the various search attempts. There was a Command Center at the Main Life Guard Tower at Salt Creek Beach. We saw search boats and two helicopters searching at the point just north of the exclusive Ritz Cove Residences. The photo we posted is of the area.
This is a busy beach day at Salt Creek Beach. The National Weather Service has issued a Beach Advisory for this weekend for Orange County.
