Police Chief Paul Workman has announced his retirement after 38 years as a Police Officer with Laguna Beach. Chief Workman said, “Laguna Beach has been a significant part of my adult life. I love the community and the people. I will truly miss my Police Department and City family. As a young man, I could have never imagined that I would have had the opportunities that Laguna Beach provided me.”
Paul Workman started as a Reserve Police Officer in May of 1975 and was hired as a full-time Police Officer in August of 1976. The Chief worked his way up through the department from a Reserve to a Police Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain until he was appointed as the Police Chief in 2009.
City Manager John Pietig stated that “Chief Workman has done an outstanding job managing the Police Department and putting together an exceptional team dedicated to serving the community. We will miss Paul’s leadership and his historic knowledge of the department and the community.”
The Chief will officially retire in August but may stay on in an interim capacity until his successor is appointed. The City Manager has indicated that an open recruitment will begin immediately.
