The Laguna Beach City Council meets tonight, Tuesday December 16 2014 at 6:00pm.

This is the details of Laguna Beach City Councils official position on San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station’s Spent Fuel Storage.

PROPOSED RESOLUTION REGARDING SPENT FUEL STORAGE AT SAN ONOFRE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION Proposal to submit a resolution to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and other related federal agencies stating our position on the proposed storage of spent nuclear fuel at SONGS.
Recommendations: Consider adopting the Resolution attached to the Agenda Bill regarding the indefinite storage of nuclear waste at SONGS, 2) Authorize the Mayor to sign a letter, accompanying the Resolution, urging our federal representatives to join immediately in the effort to develop a plan to locate the spent nuclear waste at SONGS at a secure, interim site in the near-term and to expedite a permanent spent nuclear fuel repository; 3) Direct the City Clerk to promptly provide notice of City Council action to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission before its December 22, 2014 deadline for receiving comments; and 4) Direct the Disaster/Emergency Preparedness Committee to review SONGS’ evacuation plans and report back to the City Council.
