Status Update of Emergency Event on 3/4/15
Today the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) received an anonymous threat against San Clemente High School (SCHS). While there was a threat directed at SCHS, also referenced were two unnamed schools in the surrounding areas. Therefore, our campuses in San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente, and Dana Point were put in a shelter in place by the OCSD.

We want to thank you for your patience this afternoon as the Capistrano Unified School District cooperated with the OCSD to ensure the safety of our students, faculty, and staff at school campuses in San Juan Capistrano, Dana Point, and San Clemente.

We realize that today’s event may have presented an inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. The District takes all threats seriously. In order to keep all children free from harm, we take all appropriate steps to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and campuses.

Earlier today, safety sweeps were completed at San Clemente High School, San Juan Hills High School, and all Dana Point schools. As more information became available questioning the credibility of the threats, students were released across the District. However, out of an abundance of caution thorough sweeps are currently underway at all remaining San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano schools.

Again, we thank you for your patience and understanding in ensuring the safety of all involved as we worked through this event.

The District was alerted that the Sheriff’s Department received an anonymous call regarding a possible threat of pipe bombs placed at local school sites.

All middle school, high schools, and some elementary schools (RH Dana, Concordia, Palisades, Las Palmas, Vista Del Mar, Del Obispo, San Juan, Ambuehl, Kinoshita and Lobo) in San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano are in a “Shelter in Place” while the Sheriff’s Department responds to the threat and sweeps the campuses.

Students will remain in a Shelter in Place until it is deemed safe for them to be released.

Parents are asked not to come to campus at this time to ensure that the Sheriff’s Department can perform necessary tasks to keep students safe.

We will be updating the community with information regarding this situation through our website at http://www.capousd.org as well as phone messages and will notify parents when it is safe to release your children.

Busses will be available for students who take the bus home when it is safe to release students.

Schools cleared and students released at:

Dana Hills High School
Ambuehl Elementary:

Students in Ms. Tatarian and Ms. Sullivan’s classes who are returning from the field trip will be taken to Saddleback Church in Rancho Capistrano at 29251 Camino Capistrano, San Juan Capistrano. Parents should arrange pick-up of students at this location.
