Transition Laguna and BlueBird Canyon Farms Project Monarch Butterfly Potluck is Tuesday February 28 2017.

This is a Laguna Beach Free Family Friendly Sustainability Event from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Bluebird Canyon Farms Lodge.

The purpose of the Community Potluck is to bring the Community together to discuss strategies for improving Monarch butterfly habitat at a locale in Laguna Beach.

Our Guest speaker is butterfly expert, and UCI Biology research professor Dr. Peter Bryant.

Transition Laguna Beach has been given a grant from the City of Laguna Beach to establish a Laguna Beach Monarch Butterfly Way Station.

The plan is to establish a sustaining stand of milkweed in Laguna Beach that can be maintained and protected.

This will serve as Monarch forage and habitat.

Because of its old growth eucalyptus trees trees Laguna Beach is an important location for the annual Pacific Monarch migration.

In the past numerous butterflies came through on the annual southern trek.

With the loss of habitat, use of pesticides and herbicides fewer and fewer Monarchs are arriving each year.

Please bring a dish to share.
