The City of San Clemente Opening of the Jim Johnson Memorial Sports Park Grand Opening is Wednesday May 10 2017.
This is a San Clemente Free Family Friendly Event!

The City of San Clemente will unveil the much anticipated Jim Johnson Memorial Sports Park located at 450 West Avenida Vista Hermosa with a ribbon cutting on Wednesday May 10 2017 at 4:00pm.

The park is named after Jim Johnson, a committed community member that invested in San Clemente’s youth, seniors, and schools.
Jim Johnson’s community investments were primarily donated in private and without recognition.
His preference was to enjoy watching the benefits of his support, outside public view.
When Jim passed away in 2004 he was survived by his wife, two sons, and one daughter.
It brings them great joy to know that the park named after their late husband and father, respectively, will be enjoyed by the whole San Clemente community.

The park is located on the inland portion of Marblehead Coastal, off of the southbound I- 5 Avenida Vista Hermosa exit, adjacent to Shorecliffs Middle School.

Jim Johnson Memorial Sports Park Highlights

Synthetic Soccer Field
Two Multipurpose Fields

Restrooms

The playground is considered a challenging play playground and includes features like a rope-based play structure and ocean colors throughout.
The playground theme is also reflected in the Custom Mural that is located on the new concession stand/restroom structure.

This mosaic tile mural was hand crafted for the park using children’s kaleidoscopes as inspiration to create a beautiful public art piece that is fun and timeless, and has Spanish Colonial and Moorish Tile flair.

Unique to this park is a cutting edge synthetic soccer field displaying a large “SC” in the center circle.
The highest quality materials were used to create this beautiful field.
Organic sand and coconut fiber infill was installed and will help keep the field up to 40 degrees cooler than recycled rubber infill.

The field offers comfort and savings compared to natural grass fields, saving hundreds of thousands of gallons of water in irrigation.
It does not need to be mowed, and the material is sustainable.

Professional sports level grade brock pad was installed underneath the carpet for added head attenuation protection for users when falling.
