The Dana Point Ocean Institute welcomes Hawaii’s traditional voyaging canoe Hikianalia Tuesday October 23 2018.
This is a Dana Point Free Family Friendly Event.

Traditional voyaging canoe Hikianalia has sailed more than 2,800 miles from the shores of Hawaii across the North Pacific to the State of California carrying a message of Mālama Honua –
Caring for our Island Earth.

Join the Ocean Institute in welcoming the crew of the Hikianalia, a traditional Polynesian voyaging canoe to Dana Point California on October 23 2018 thru October 30 2018.

Cheer the crew as they make their way into the harbor accompanied by local outrigger canoe clubs and greeted on shore by representatives of the Achajamen Nation.

Escort the crew into the Ocean Institute for the official welcoming ceremony featuring traditional songs and dances.

Hikianalia Dana Point Ocean Institute Schedule

Tuesday October 23 2018
4:00 pm: Arrival in Dana Point Harbor with public viewing area on the Maddie James Seaside Learning Center Maritime Wharf
5:00 pm: Arrival Ceremony with public viewing area inside Ocean Institute’s main courtyard

Saturday October 27 2018: 10:00am-3:00pm
Tour the Hikianalia during their dockside open-house canoe tours on the Maddie James Seaside Learning Center. These tours are free and open to the public of all ages.

Sunday October 28 2018: 10:00am-3:00pm
Tour the Hikianalia during their dockside open-house canoe tours on the Maddie James Seaside Learning Center. These tours are free and open to the public of all ages.
