For some assignments, City Council members receive payment in exchange for devoting time to outside interests in his/her capacity as a Dana Point City representative.
Other City Council members also serve on boards of directors, committees, subcommittees and/or participate in workshop, study sessions or otherwise devote time to outside interests but receive no remuneration for their time.
From time to time, City Council is required to make governmental decisions pertaining to a City Council member’s paid service.
California law bars any public official from making or participating in any governmental decision in which s/he knows or has reason to know s/he has a financial interest.
Currently, if this information is available at all, it is disclosed on various forms located at various places, often not known to or sometimes not readily accessible to the public.
In the interest of complete transparency, the public should be adequately informed of the payments and be able to publicly comment on any actual or perceived conflict of interest.

First Reading of Ordinance relating to ban on polystyrene
Current code prohibits food vendors from providing prepared food from being made in Dana Point in a polystyrene (styrofoam).
New Ordinance would prohibits foods being made elsewhere that is put in polystyrene (styrofoam) and being sold in Dana Point.

Contract with Orange County Sheriff’s Department
The proposed agreement is for $12,855,265, an increase of $154,251 or 1.21% over the FY19 amended contract of $12,701,014.
The increase is due primarily to increased costs for benefits (+137,567), other components of compensation such as training- related pay (+$11,199) and overtime (+$4,572), indirect costs such as OCSD Department Overhead (+$3,757) and County Overhead (+$1,002), and increase in cost for Vacancy Credits (+$62,108).
The total Police Services Department budget, including the OCSD Agreement, is projected to be $13.7 million for FY20, or 34.2% of the proposed budget, and continues to be the fastest growing cost for the City.

Dana Point City Council encourages the community to participate in the Public Comments portion of the meeting.
