Property Preparation
Keep Drains Free of Debris and Vegetations
Many hillside lots have private terrace drains that convey runoff to a safe and proper point of disposal.
A terrace drain is made of concrete and typically crosses several different properties before its water enters a City-maintained drainage facility.
The maintenance, clean-up, and repair of these private drains is required to be done by property owners.
In order to control drainage and erosion during rain events, the City advises property owners to keep terrace drains free of any vegetation and debris that might block or divert water and any cracks or missing sections should be repaired or replaced in order to prevent water from seeping into the ground and destabilizing the hillsides.
