Dana Point Recreation will be celebrating the 35th anniversary of two classic films, Back to the Future and The Goonies with physically distanced movie nights in August.

Dana Point Chamber #MaskUpDP
“To slow the spread of the Coronavirus and support an open and thriving economy, we must all continue practicing public safety measures – including wearing a mask when in public,” said Dana Point Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Vickie McMurchie.
The City and Chamber will be sharing more information on their social media platforms and invite local business leaders to share their message about #MaskUpDP.

The County of Orange
SafeDineOC Restaurant Program
The County of Orange is supporting local restaurants that are reopening safely.
Restaurants can apply for a $1,000 grant to receive reimbursement for masks, employee training, site reconfiguration, cleaning supplies, and more.

Orange County COVID-19 Updates
In a press conference on July 30 2020, Orange County’s Health Officer discussed the challenges with the California Department of Health’s data reporting and has added “notes” to the County’s data reporting pages. The County’s data maps section has also added several tabs relating to youth COVID-19 cases.

The State of California
California Youth Sports Guidance
The State released guidance this week on Youth Sports.
Must comply with cohorting and physical distancing requirements, with an emphasis on physical conditioning and skill-building.

California Allows For School Waivers For In person Instruction
School Officials may apply for Waivers to open grades TK-6 for in-person instruction only if they can guarantee small cohorted instruction, receive sign-off from the Local Health Officer, and consult with members of the school community.

California and Local Agencies COVID-19 Data Technical Issues
The State and local agencies may have inaccurate case counts due to technical issues.
Dr. Mark Ghaly, the State’s Health and Human Services Secretary, indicated earlier this week that they had discovered some discrepancies.
Data, he said, is “getting stuck” in the electronic system that feeds information from test labs to both the state and local public health departments, which may result in an undercount of positive cases.
The discrepancy does not affect hospitalization and intensive care data.
California Unemployment Claims
Due to a backlog of nearly 1 million unemployment claims, Governor Newsom announced the Employment Development Department will go through a major technological update to address the delays in processing claims and better serve out-of-work Californians.

US Second Quarter 2020 Economy Decline
Last quarter was rough. In April through June the economy contracted 32.9%, an unprecedented decline that has no comparison since records began in 1947.
COVID-19 Vaccine Test Performed Well
The first COVID-19 vaccine tested performed the way scientists had hoped, bolstering people’s immune systems against the virus.
