Dana Point COVID-19 Community Updates Will Be Posted On As Needed Basis

Dana Point Physically Distanced Movie In August 2020
Are you ready to escape 2020? How about a trip back to 1985?
Dana Point Recreation will be celebrating the 35th anniversary of two classic films, Back to the Future and The Goonies with physically distanced movie nights in August.

Dana Point Chamber #MaskUpDP
“To slow the spread of the Coronavirus and support an open and thriving economy, we must all continue practicing public safety measures – including wearing a mask when in public,” said Dana Point Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Vickie McMurchie.
The City and Chamber will be sharing more information on their social media platforms and invite local business leaders to share their message about #MaskUpDP.

The County of Orange
County of Orange COVID-19 Data System Is Performing As Expected
The data issues with the State’s electronic laboratory reporting system have been addressed and the system is now performing as expected.
There is not currently a backlog of new Orange County cases in CalREDIE.
County of Orange School Waivers
The County is offering students and staffers of elementary schools seeking waivers access to County testing sites.
The County Health Care Agency expects the State will likely begin to consider waivers, at the earliest, later this week.
SafeDineOC Restaurant Program
The County of Orange is supporting local restaurants that are reopening safely.
Restaurants can apply for a $1,000 grant to receive reimbursement for masks, employee training, site reconfiguration, cleaning supplies, and more.

California’s Public Health Director Resigns
California’s Public Health Director, Dr. Sonia Angell, resigned this week, following the glitch with the CalREDIE reporting system.
The backlog of 295,000 coronavirus test results were processed over last weekend.

The State has launched #ShopSafeShopLocal to support local small businesses throughout the State. Learn more about the campaign here.
California Youth Sports Guidance
The State released guidance this week on Youth Sports.
Must comply with cohorting and physical distancing requirements, with an emphasis on physical conditioning and skill-building.

California Allows For School Waivers For In person Instruction
School Officials may apply for Waivers to open grades TK-6 for in-person instruction only if they can guarantee small cohorted instruction, receive sign-off from the Local Health Officer, and consult with members of the school community.

Due to a backlog of nearly 1 million unemployment claims, Governor Newsom announced the Employment Development Department will go through a major technological update to address the delays in processing claims and better serve out-of-work Californians.

The United States of American Federal Government
President Trumps Executive Orders
President Trump signed an executive order last weekend.
The Order covered evictions, payroll taxes and unemployment benefits.
No further progress has been made toward a second stimulus bill.
United States Contracts with Moderna Inc. For COVID-19 Vaccine
Moderna Inc. said Tuesday it agreed to provide the U.S. government 100 million doses of its experimental coronavirus vaccine in exchange for more than $1.5 billion.
This is one deal amongst several to provide funding for potential vaccines.
In total, the U.S. has ordered 800 million doses, for a U.S. population of about 330 million, likely under the assumption that some vaccines won’t make it through clinical testing.
