Dana Point Civic Association Coffee Chat is Virtual on Friday June 18 2021 at 8:30am.

Dana Point Coffee Chat is on Zoom at 8:30am-9:30am.

Friday June 18 2021: Ocean Institute CEO and President Wendy Marshall.
“The Ocean Institute: A Case Study in Resilience.”
The focus will be on their trajectory through the pandemic and the strategies that was employed to fulfill their mission despite all obstacles.
Ocean Institute closed its doors on March 16, 2020, wiping $1.8 million in school programs off the books for the Spring season alone.
With surprisingly high fixed costs due to the vessels, animal care, etc., the organization’s future was precarious.
Despite the daunting challenge they faced, the Ocean Institute ended the year firmly in the black (after depreciation, for the first time in years), retained their corporate memory by retaining their staff (did not furlough or let go of anyone), and was able to create new programs to meet new conditions – several of which will continue beyond the pandemic.
They learned important lessons along the way and they look forward to sharing their story and strategies in the hopes that participants will leave inspired and empowered to see opportunity, even in the most challenging times.
