California Ortega Highway (State Route 74) Full Closure is ongoing Saturday August 14 2021 thru Monday August 16 2021.
Ortega Highway will be closed in Orange County and in Lake Elsinore and there will be no access and no thru traffic in either direction.
A full 55-hour weekend closure will begin Friday August 13 2021 at 9:00pm thru Monday August 16 2021 at 5:00am.
The main closure will take place at Monte Vista Street in Lake Elsinore California.
This weekend’s Closure is part of CalTrans Ortega Highway (State Route 74) Widening Project
CalTrans states that, “The purpose of this project is to improve the safety performance and reduce collision on Ortega Highway from the Orange/Riverside County Line All work is anticipated to be complete by Fall 2025.”

Lake Elsinore Ortega Highway Closure Details
Residents on Monte Vista St. and east of Monte Vista St. will be directed to Lake
Elsinore and will need to utilize the I-15 to SR-91 to gain access to OC.
Residents west of Monte Vista St. will be directed to Orange County and will
need to utilize the I-5 to SR-55 to SR-91 to the I-15 to gain access to Lake
Elsinore.
A designated pilot car FOR RESIDENTS ONLY will be on site to escort residents
to their homes and out of the construction zone.
Be advised: Extreme wait times up to and possibly exceeding two hours are expected.
The only access for residents on the west side of Monte Vista will be from the Orange County side.
There will be signs placed at each end of the project stating the road is closed to
through traffic.
Please obey all posted signs and traffic instructions, including the pilot escort car,
as CHP will be on location and citing any offenders.

Plan Ahead.
Be advised that the availability of alternate routes within this area of SR 74 my change –
meaning, the construction zone will change nightly resulting in, some areas not having
access to Orange County or Lake Elsinore, and vice versa.
A new commuter alert will be issued with locations of full closure as soon as the location of
work is determined.
Additional future full 55-hour weekend closures and nightly full closures for the duration
of the project are anticipated to occur.
A future schedule is forthcoming.
Use caution and expect delays during construction hours.
Law enforcement will be on scene to assist with traffic control.
Remember to reduce your speed in and surrounding the work zone.
