
Huntington Beach/Newport Beach Oil Spill Causes Pacific Air Show Cancellation Sunday October 3 2021.
The Oil spill is reported to be due to a broken pipeline from a offshore oil platform.
The City of Huntington Beach states that, “126,000 gallon oil spill is impacting Coastal Orange County”.
The spill is 5.8 nautical miles long according to the City of Huntington Beach.
Saturday October 2 2021 at 9:10am: US Coast Guard LA reports: Oil spill reported to be approximately 13 square miles in size, 3 miles off the coast of Newport Beach.
Public Is Asked To Avoid The Area
Due to the toxicity of the area, the City of Huntington Beach is asking the pubic to avoid the beaches from the Santa Ana River to Huntington Beach Pier.
Oil Spill United Command Agencies
Beta Offshore, the Coast Guard, California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Office of Spill Prevention and Response (CDFW-OSPR). Supporting agencies are the cities of Long Beach, Newport Beach, and Huntington Beach, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department
Oiled Wildlife
CDFW-OSPR is monitoring for oiled wildlife.
If anyone encounters oiled wildlife, do not approach. Call the Oiled Wildlife Care Network at 1-877-823-6926.
Laguna Beach Pacific Marine Mammal Center
Sunday October 3 2021 at 8:30am: Pacific Marine Mammal Center (PMMC) will be assisting multiple agencies and organizations to help in the recovery efforts.
At this time they have yet to see any oiled marine life but if you do in the Orang County area please call 949-494-3050.
