California Highway Patrol Maximum Enforcement Period on 4th of July Weekend 2022.
Many Californians are looking forward to a three-day weekend this year for Independence Day 2022.
Even though people are eager to travel and get together with family and friends, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is urging motorists to slow down and enjoy the holiday.
To help ensure the safety of motorists throughout the holiday, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will conduct a Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP).
4th of July Weekend Maximum Enforcement Dates and Times
Friday July 1 2022: Starts at 6:01pm thru Monday July 4 2022 at 11:59pm
To keep the roadways safe for everyone, all available officers will be watching for motorists who are distracted, speeding, or driving under the influence (DUI).
CHP officers will also be on alert for aggressive driving and acts of road rage.
Last year’s stepped-up efforts to enforce speed limits during the Independence Day weekend, July 2-5, resulted in CHP officers issuing nearly 10,000 citations statewide.
“Give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination. Speeding not only endangers your life, but the lives of everyone on the roadway,” said CHP Commissioner Amanda Ray. “Fill the holiday weekend with celebration and fun activities, not reckless choices that lead to tragedy.”

The public can help by calling 9-1-1 if they suspect an impaired driver.
Callers should be prepared to give the vehicle’s description, location, license plate number, and direction of travel.
