UPDATED AT 11:55pm on Saturday September 14 2024

Cal Fire is reporting 19% Containment at 23,519 acres burned at 5:23pm on Saturday September 14 2024

Cal Fire is reporting that the Airport Fire is currently at 23,494 acres and 9% Containment. (Saturday September 14 2024 at 7:55am)
Cal Fire was reporting 45% Containment at 5:11am on Saturday September 14 2024. They have corrected that number to 9%.

The Airport Fire is burning in the Santa Ana Mountains between Rancho Santa Margarita, Lake Elsinore, and Modjeska Peak.

Cal Fire reports on Saturday September 14 2024 that, “Firefighters are making significant strides in establishing a containment line along the Ortega Highway towards Lakeland Village. The continued support from air operations is proving invaluable in aiding firefighters efforts on the ground. By strategically constructing both direct and indirect firelines, firefighters are creating a robust barrier against the fire’s spread. The influx of additional resources to the Airport Fire is a positive development, providing much-needed support to the firefighting efforts. Taking advantage of favorable weather conditions, crews are actively building firelines and employing effective tactics. Hand crews are playing a vital role in this endeavor, and the arrival of reinforcements will further strengthen their capabilities. As conditions allow, damage assessments will continue to be conducted near El Cariso by the damage assessment teams.

Yesterday, Riverside and Orange County officials announced additional changes to evacuation orders and warnings related to the fire. These updates reflect the evolving situation on the ground as firefighters continue to make progress in containing the fire. It’s important for residents in the affected areas to stay informed about the latest evacuation information and to follow the guidance of local authorities.

While we appreciate the generosity of those who have offered food donations, we encourage you to consider supporting local charities that can better distribute aid to those affected by the fire. These organizations, such as food banks, shelters, and community centers, are equipped to provide essential supplies and services to those in need. By directing your donations to these reputable organizations, you can help ensure that your support is used effectively to assist those impacted by the fire.”

Orange County Fire Authority at 8:00pm on Saturday September 14 2024 is Reporting That, “The #AirportFire is 23,519 acres with 19% containment. Active fire behavior was observed near Modjeska Peak and Sugar Loaf today. Multiple aircraft were utilized to address the increased activity and assist ground crews in moderating fire behavior. Substantial progress was made toward Bell Canyon through the combined efforts of heavy equipment, hand tools, and aerial support. In Trabuco Canyon, direct and indirect firelines were successfully constructed toward El Cariso. Ongoing efforts focused on preventing further property loss and establishing a containment line to confine the fire within its current boundaries. Damage assessment teams diligently evaluated the extent of structural damage, and those efforts will continue as they gain access.
Favorable weather conditions persisted, with the marine layer returning this evening and forecast light precipitation in the coming days. Despite recent weather, the dry vegetation has exhibited active fire behavior, indicating the continued risk of increased fire activity.
Evacuation levels are being assessed daily by fire managers in collaboration with law enforcement based on fire containment and safety considerations. Efforts are underway to safely return residents to their homes as conditions permit.
Lake Elsinore Lake is closed to support firefighting efforts.”
