Are You Concerned about New Dana Point Development at PCH and Del Obispo? Dana Point Planning Commission Meeting Tonight

IMG_0317.PNG
The Dana Point Planning Commission is having a public meeting tonight at the Dana Point Community Center at 6:00pm.
The Agenda can be linked to at Agenda

The Community Center is located at 34052 Del Obispo. The public is encouraged to attend.
There are two Development projects near or at PCH and Del Obispo that are on the table tonight.
They are both mixed use residential and business projects.
One is located at 34202 Del Obispo. This is the old Mobil Home Park. It is proposed to be a 168 Condo Development with Commercial space.

The most high profile item is a Costal Development Permit for Majestic Housing and Development LCC.
They are requesting a permit to construct a 30,000 sq. foot three story high rise in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Del Prado.
The plan is for retail space on the ground floor with 111 residential Condo’s on all 3 levels. There will also be 2 levels of parking.
The plans for this development is online with the city of Dana Point.
Please link to majestic housing develoment to view their plans.

Dana Point Residents for Responsible Development have a Facebook Page up that expresses their disapproval with this plan.
This is from their site.

MAJESTIC SEEKS APPROVAL FOR TOWN CENTER PROJECT

•The Dana Point Community Development Department is recommending approval.

•Residents do not agree with the Department’s interpretation of the Town Center Plan used to justify the variances and other exceptions.

•The fourth story of residences should be eliminated for all phases because it is not allowed in the town Center Plan and requires an unlawful variance which will set a precedent for other developers to ask for if this is approved.

•The project ‘s computation of needed parking spaces is inadequate, creating a burden to nearby residential neighborhoods; location of in lieu spaces has not been determined.

•There needs to be additional architectural improvements

•Residents deserve to see the size of these buildings through staking.

•All decorative and unnecessary features above the 40 foot limit should be eliminated.

Please plan on attending and adding your voice to the MAJORITY of residents who are telling the City that this developer needs to come up with a better plan!”

For more information on Dana Point Residents for Responsible Development that do not approve of this plan please visit their Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/DanaPointResidents

Important Community Event Happening Right Now. Southern California Edison (SCE) is having a public engagement meeting. This event is at the San Juan Community Center until 7:00 pm. The Community Center is located at 25925 Camino Del Avion.
This is s Decommissioning Education Fair.
The Fair at 5:00pm had a equal amount of citizens and SCE employees. The employees were smiling and very approachable. When you first entered there was one table set up to explain why it will take 20 years to decommission San Onofre. The rest of the room was filled with a variety of information relating to energy. There was a emphasis on alternative energy sources. There was a lovely food buffet for the Community to enjoy. There was also a child arts and crafts area set up. There was no children there when I was there. The parking lot out front was full. There is parking available in the back.
I spoke to one concerned citizen name Geri from Laguna Beach. She has been attending all of the meetings. She spoke to SCE about why it is going to take 20 years to decommission.
The Community members I spoke with all shared one main concern. Public safety. They thought that having San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station shut down was a positive event for public safety. Hearing that it will take 20 years to shut down was very disheartening.
When I was leaving I heard a concerned citizen tell other concerned citizens, “…SONGS is just more of that old song and dance.”

In their September 23 2014 Press Release announcing the event, SCE states,
“…San Onofre’s key leaders will be on hand to answer questions about SCE’s plan to decommission San Onofre within 20 years and safely manage the plant’s used nuclear fuel. ”
“The education fair is just one part of Southern California Edison’s comprehensive effort to inform and engage Californians every step of the way as we decommission San Onofre,” said Chris Thompson, SCE’s vice president of SCE.
SCE and the other owners of San Onofre have established an 18-member Community Engagement Panel to advise the owners on the nuclear plant’s decommissioning. Documents reviewed by the CEP are available on the San Onofre website, along with videotapes of the panel’s meetings. Members of the public also may sign up here to receive regular email updates about the $4.4 billion decommissioning project.
