This shortened version of their Blue Whale Safari is another opportunity to see these gentle giants. Come along in the search to find these magnificent creatures in our local waters. Their scientific staff will guide your adventure and offer plenty of information while you enjoy your time on the R/V Sea Explorer – witnessing the largest animal ever to inhabit planet Earth! Dana Point Ocean Institute Family Science Night Tonight Tuesday August 19 2014

The Ocean Institute in Dana Point is presenting Summer Family Science Nights.
Spend a summer evening in their Samueli Conference Center getting up close and personal with local scientists. Your entire family is invited to visit as you survey the stars, explore the seas, and dive into the surf zone. Each workshop event will include a presentation by a guest speaker with alternate activities for kids, followed by a lab program to introduce your whole family to the fascinating world of science.
This weeks event is on Tuesday August 19. 2014 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

Speaker Trude Hurd, Director of Education, The Sea and Sage Audubon Center will discuss Backyard Birds In Your Neighborhood.
The presentation will focus on the common birds of Orange County and some of the not-so-common birds and learn how everyone can get involved in projects to help protect birds and keep them safe.

Dana Point Interpretive Center Hosts A Free Whale Walk & Talk at 9:00am Today

Join in this morning, Saturday August 16 2014 at the Dana Point Nature Interpretive Center for a engaging walk and information session about whales and dolphins. This free event starts at 9:00 am and concludes at 11:00am. The Center is located at 34558 Scenic Drive.
From the Dana Point Nature Interpretive Center, you can see many different species of whale and dolphin! Come learn about our largest animal visitors on an approximately 1.5 mile walk through the Dana Point Headlands conservation area. Bring your binoculars (or use ours!) and learn migration patterns of different whale species that frequent the area, as well as how to best spot, watch, and identify whales.
